Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 lb ground chuck
1 can whole tomatoes -- (15 oz)
1 can Campbell's chicken broth -- (10 oz) undiluted
2 C marinara sauce
1 onion sliced
1 clove garlic -- minced
1/2 head green cabbage -- coarsely chopped
1/3 C raw long-grain white rice (not minute rice)
2 bay leaves
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp thyme
2 tsp dried minced onion
1 Pinch marjoram
In a large skillet with a tight-fitting lid, brown the beef; drain most of
the grease. Add the sliced onion and cook until just beginning to soften;
add the garlic and spices. Stir in the whole tomatoes and quarter them with
scissors; stir in the marinara and rice. Add about half of the chicken
stock; bring to a bubble, and stir in the cabbage. Stir well to combine; add
the rest of the chicken broth, cover and reduce heat, and simmer about 20
minutes until the rice is cooked, the cabbage has softened, and the liquid
has reduced.
First made Wednesday, March 09, 2011. I had homemade marinara from another
project. This tastes just like stuffed cabbage without all the hassle.
